Whither Genius?

A group of scornful heads surround a man who looks distraught. In between the head are the words HA HA everywhere. The heads are saying "Work of art! Ha ha listen to him!" & "Thinks he's a genius now!" The distraught man thinks "They're laughing - LAUGHING at me!"

That image above comes from a very old comic book - a DC mystery comic from the early 1950s - which I found scans of a million years ago. I'll never find out exactly where it's from.

But it does indicate how people can feel about genius, which is the theme tonight on Self Help Radio. How this show came about is something of a mystery to me but I think I was reading something about someone - probably a musician - who was described as a "misunderstood genius." It's something I've read before & at the time I thought it might be a backhanded compliment. After all, there are bound to be many folks who would love to be described as "misunderstood geniuses" - if only because, by the time they're called that, they would be understood at last. But I can imagine lots of misunderstood geniuses are never recognized as such - & therefore never recognized as geniuses.

Howsoever this show had its origins, hey! It's on tonight on KBOO. That's midnight to 2am on 90.7fm in town, kboo dot fm everywhere. & yes, I'm aware it's the only time ever that the word "genius" will be associated with Self Help Radio.

Oh dear now people will think that was my plan all along!
