Preface To Vacation Week One: Vacations

An old tweet from around 2023 by Danielle Weisberg reads, "Vacations are not for relaxing. They are for imaging a completely unsustainable fantasy life in a city as equally expensive as your own but with different weather."
(found years ago before Twitter died)

It's true! The wife & I are going on a long vacation. I have already prepared two prerecorded Self Help Radio episodes & two Dickenbock Report episodes. (One of the Dickenbock Report episodes was actually put together by my friend Mark.)

It's the first time in a very long time - if ever - that we are going someplace that's not also a destination for something academic - a conference or research. When we visited Denver in March, she had some gathering to attend & present for. She's kind of afraid we'll have nothing to do.

In addition, we're going overseas in these increasingly unpleasant times - & I'm a little nervous we'll run out of jet fuel & not be able to make it back.

Also of course I'll miss my dogs & cats. It will be the longest I've been away from most of them ever. I wish I could live in the moment like they do but right now they're a little alarmed I'm being overly needy toward them.

Gah! Too much to do! Better get on it. I'm sure I'll talk more about it in about two weeks. Stay tuned.
